Week in POAP: The Devcon Issue

This Week in POAP covers the most memorable parts of the biggest Ethereum event of the year, as told through the POAP ecosystem.

Week in POAP: The Devcon Issue

Minting Ethereum history with POAP

Devcon is the biggest event where the Ethereum community comes together, so it felt only natural to celebrate the occasion with a precious digital collectible from POAP. POAP #178416, Devcon Southeast Asia 2024, was given out on small cards with unique QR codes, carefully handed to each person. Each card could be used to mint one POAP, so that the list of collectors would be accurate for future use.

Exactly 1200 lucky people also received a precious physical collectible: a small enamel pin featuring art from Devcon 7 SEA. Because this item can be held in your hand, it feels more real to collectors.

Even so, the digital version is easier to share, lasts longer, and can be used in many helpful and creative ways. For example, POAP #178416 has had 125 Moments created, which all 4,462 collectors can easily see on POAP Home.

All together, people who collected any POAP from the Devcon 7 SEA Collection created over 700 Moments. This makes it the first Ethereum event where many people used POAP Moments, a new product from POAP that helps people record meaningful things that happened in their lives.

Using POAPs to organize media is revolutionary, because it means that memories can now be connected forever to the moment in time where they were made, through the people who were there. In the past, photos and videos would get lost in digital space, but with POAP Moments, we can look forward to a bright future where people can easily revisit their favorite memories by looking back at the POAPs they love.

Have fun connecting with POAP Home

Sharing "You've Met Me" POAPs has become a favorite tradition in the Ethereum community, and this year's Devcon was no different. During Devcon week, 3,983 POAPs were minted by 707 POAP community members meeting each other. Big thanks to matoken, Chee, and Lamboshi for helping spread the POAP joy!

Many POAP community members used the new POAP Dispenser feature in POAP Home to make sharing POAPs super easy. Just add the drop ID and passcode, or scan the QR code with POAP Drops if you're near your computer. Both individuals and teams used the POAP Dispenser to spread joy in the community.

A special shout-out to the ENS team for the NFC cards given out at frENS Day — they were a big hit! Here's a little secret: you can reprogram these cards to use at future events, so be sure to keep yours safe.

Find POAPs with GPS!

Using GPS to mint POAPs is a feature we've all been waiting for, and it's finally here! Besides the main POAP of the conference, Bangkok had a second POAP that all POAP fans could mint using the "Scan Location" feature in POAP Home. To thank the community members who helped test this new feature, POAP Inc is planning to give away a prize of 1 ETH to one lucky person who minted POAP #179606. Details about the draw will be announced soon, so keep an eye on @poapxyz.

GPS POAPs are currently available in a limited release by request for certain uses. We expect the feature will be available to the POAP issuer community in early 2025.
